Care Instructions
Your Rune Root pieces are crafted with intention. Following these simple care instructions is a ritual in itself—a way to honor the natural materials and extend the life of your cherished items.
Candle Care
The First Burn: Setting the Memory
The first time you light your candle is the most important. Allow it to burn long enough for the melted wax pool to reach the entire edge of the vessel, typically 2-3 hours. This "sets the memory" for the wax and prevents "tunneling" on all future burns, ensuring you can enjoy the candle to its fullest.
Before Each Light: Wick Care
A well-tended wick is the key to a beautiful flame. Before every single use, trim the wick to about ¼ inch (6mm).This prevents the flame from becoming too large, reduces soot, and stops the wick from "mushrooming."
Burn Time & Safety
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep the candle away from drafts, flammable objects, children, and pets.
- Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
- Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Stop using the candle when only ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.
When the Journey is Complete
Once the flame has extinguished for the last time, your vessel is ready for a new purpose. Gently remove the remaining wax and wick base (placing it in a warm water bath can help loosen it). Wash the vessel with soap and water, and use it to hold herbs, jewelry, pens, or any other small treasures.
Earth-Dyed Wear
Washing
The gentlest approach is always best. We recommend washing by hand in cool water. If machine washing, please use a delicate cycle with cool water in a mesh laundry bag to protect the fabric. Wash with like colors.
Detergent
This is the most critical step.Always use a pH-neutral, eco-friendly detergent. The chemistry of natural dyes is sensitive to pH. Harsh detergents, stain removers (like OxyClean), and especially bleach will strip or dramatically alter the color. Soap nuts or a gentle, plant-based soap are ideal.
Drying
Never use high heat. The gentlest method is to hang or lay flat to dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Direct sunlight will fade natural dyes over time. If you must use a machine, tumble dry on the lowest possible heat setting.
A Note on Living Color
Please know that natural dyes will gently evolve over time with washing and wear. They may soften and lighten, developing a unique patina that reflects their journey with you. This is a beautiful sign of a life well-lived, not a flaw.
